Client Success StoriesAdjusting To A Rapidly Growing Workforce

Client:
BayshoreAllied.com

Sector:
Moving and Storage

Size:
Small/Medium -- Over 150 employees, with offices in two states and remote workers in six states

Description:
Since 1973, Bayshore has been a leader and innovator in the Moving and Storage industry in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Over the years, Bayshore has been recognized by the US Small Business Administration and others for its outstanding achievements in service, growth and employee retention.

The Business Need:

  1. To provide a fast, secure, highly available IT environment for a growing mobile/remote workforce with flexible user access based on each employee’s job function
  2. To lower hardware and energy costs
  3. To simplify the training environment

The Solution and Technologies:
Sigma Data Systems migrated Bayshore’s network operations from a traditional client/server model to a 100% remote desktop model.  This allows the client to utilize Microsoft Remote Desktop Services to quickly access all business applications from any computer with a secure Internet connection.

The remote desktop model provides the following business benefits:

  • consistent security policy & user experience across the enterprise
  • simplified backups, training and software upgrades
  • reduced network traffic
  • increased speed and performance

Also, by moving to the remote desktop model, Bayshore has improved the security of its data.  Rather than documents and emails being stored on individual computers, they are stored and indexed on the server.

Sigma also worked closely with Bayshore’s business application vendors to ensure a smooth transition with zero downtime during the migration.

The Future:
Bayshore will continue to enjoy the benefits of their migration to the remote desktop.  As their business grows, they will save on hardware and software licensing.  Also as technology moves on, they will save time and money on upgrades across the board.

A Message From the Client

"For a variety of reasons, we had been discussing the idea of using a centralized processing environment for several years.  We finally made the decision to implement in the fall of 2009.  Little did we know that it would really be beneficial with the recent inclement weather we have had this winter.

"In our business of moving and storage, we have customers all across the country who are not impacted by what is going on at the home office.  Customers may have questions or concerns that they need answers to, and we need to be able to respond accordingly.  The closing of our office was seamless to our customers with our Customer Service Department having the capability to work from home as if they were sitting at their desks in the office.

"We also had several people from the Accounting Department on call should there be any pricing issues that needed attention.

"Overall, we couldn't be more pleased with the performance of our environment and are confident we made the correct decision to change."
